Race Day FAQ’s

You have hit the trails, built your endurance, and hopefully had a lot of fun! Race season is just around the corner and it’s time to prove to yourself how far you have come. If you find that you have some questions, we definitely have some answers.

  • You can check the race day schedule on our website, here.

  • On race day, make sure that you have your tune-up bike ready to go, a bike repair kit, water bottle, yellow race jersey, helmet, and a good attitude!

  • Each student athlete should wear their yellow race jersey, yellow team helmet, solid black shorts, black socks, gloves, and mountain bike safe shoes. If it is a cold day, you can wear pants or a long sleeve shirt but if you would like to wear something during the race, it must be worn underneath the team jersey.

  • We ask that each student athlete check-in at our tent an hour and a half BEFORE their start time. This gives them plenty of time to get their race plates, call-out number, get in a warm-up with their group and ensure they are at staging at the proper time. We would like to add that we do encourage our athletes to stay during race day as long as possible to help cheer on our team!

  • We encourage our athletes to bring their family to help cheer them on! With the support of our sponsors, we ensure that our tent has meals (with snacks in-between) for everyone! Our parent committee has also made sure that there are different activities at the tent for all ages to enjoy throughout the day.

  • You can view the Wave Sheet for each race on the Utah High School MTB website. For the Soldier Hollow Race, you can view the Wave Sheet HERE. If you cannot remember which category you are in, please contact Ryan Smith.

  • Each season, we have a couple opportunities to race courses that are outside of our backyard boundary lines. These are great opportunities for our athletes to explore different terrain and push themselves outside of their comfort zone. For these rides, if you need to rent a hotel or get a camp spot, we recommend that you do so EARLY to ensure you get a spot! Our team usually does not participate in an official ‘pre-ride’ if courses are more than 2 hours away but if you would like to see the course prior to race day, the Utah High School MTB league provides course descriptions and videos on their website, and they also open-up a pre-ride the night before a race. Many of our riders will spend the night before the race in these towns, do the pre-ride, and then spend the day at the team tent.

So there you have it, riders and proud parents! Race day is an experience filled with adventure, camaraderie, and awesome memories. So strap on your helmet, grease those gears, and get ready to pedal your way to an unforgettable experience. See you at the finish line!
